Join us for one of our signature MHSCN events is our annual fall conference, which brings together experts and peers to share best practices, trends and innovations in health care marketing and communications. We’re excited to gather on Monday, Nov. 4, 2024, at the beautiful Brookview event center conveniently located in Golden Valley. It will be a time for attendees to convene, network and learn. 

Our annual MHSCN Awards of Excellence will also be presented at the fall conference. The awards honor exceptional efforts in health care communications, marketing, public relations and individual excellence from the past year.

Through insights from his personal journey with addiction and recovery, William Cope Moyers will share the valuable lessons he has learned about hope and healing. He will also discuss the important role healthcare communicators can play in storytelling and combating the harmful stigma that surrounds addiction while keeping the focus on meaningful solutions.

Communication Rx: Building a strong foundation to reconnect and re-engage
Many healthcare organizations are still facing the critical task of rebuilding employee engagement and connection in the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic. The communications function continues to play a critical role in this work. This presentation will guide attendees through a back-to-basics strategic communications approach, emphasizing the importance of consistency and simplification in messaging. We’ll share insights from a recent rollout of new values and explore strategies for reconnecting and re-engaging staff, fostering a culture of transparency, and leveraging an audience-first approach to enhance communication.

Visual storytelling is a powerful tool to connect audiences with the compassionate care provided in healthcare settings. This session will delve into the importance of visual storytelling in healthcare, the challenges of gaining and granting access to sensitive environments, and the ethical considerations involved. Through real-world examples and expert insights from a Star Tribune photojournalist and an independent editorial photographer and cinematographer, attendees will learn how to effectively navigate these challenges and harness the impact of compelling visual narratives.

Panelists will share practical tips on how AI can be used to make communicators’ jobs easier and potential pitfalls to avoid.

Authentic marketing and community partnerships in healthcare
Healthcare organizations can better connect with diverse cultural communities to improve health equity, reach more patients and build brand awareness. Successful efforts go beyond translation and diversifying branding materials and require listening to community members, investing marketing dollars differently and learning from missteps. This session will explore changes Children’s Minnesota pursued from a strategic marketing perspective, the process undertaken and the results. The panel will also share examples of effective community partnerships from the perspective of Wilson’s Image Style and Barbers’ Teto Wilson, a well-established and well-respected partner to healthcare organizations.
