Sponsor Spotlight

Healthcare is always changing, always learning. Curious, a brand and marketing firm in Minneapolis, has partnered with Alomere Health for over ten years. And in that time, so much has happened for the west-central healthcare leader.

The relationship began in 2012, when Douglas County Hospital, Alexandria Clinic, Osakis Clinic, and Heartland Orthopedic Specialists merged. Each organization kept their name, but consolidated some internal departments to begin working as a single health system. Curious helped them navigate collectively marketing the individual brands with a singular voice. In addition, Sanford Health opened a competitive clinic only a stone’s throw from the hospital.

The years to follow saw large investments, including a $15 million expansion of their surgery center, new specialty clinics, and the introduction of the region’s first robot-assisted surgery offering.

As the three organizations learned to work as one, Curious was tasked with helping the health system choose a new name for themselves. With such a close knit community and a long history with the hospital and clinic, letting go of the past and moving forward was a challenge. Yet in 2018, Curious helped launch Alomere Health to the community. The new brand touched everything from exterior signage, smocks, menus, way finding, billboards, radio, and print advertising. More importantly, the fresh modern name and design signaled to the community a bright future for the health system and the community.

With two years of positive momentum, COVID would test the organization. As the local healthcare leader, all eyes were on Alomere. The leadership quickly moved into action by shutting down elective surgeries, created a special COVID clinic, and initiated strict safety protocols throughout the hospital and clinics. The community responded in kind with donations of personal protective equipment—including tens of thousands of hand sewn masks for the area healthcare workers. Curious helped Alomere change the conversation that was full of scary news, to a message of collaboration and hope. Each new day seemed to offer a new messaging challenge. Yet, the close relationship between Alomere and Curious allowed the marketing team to respond quickly to update and inform the community.

With COVID largely behind us now, Curious supports Alomere with other challenges. With a shrinking workforce and growing demand for healthcare, recruitment for a rural community is a priority. Curious has responded with a strategy of building compelling employee and provider spotlight stories combined with highly targeted digital marketing. Supported with great marketing content (Alomere was recently recognized as a Top 20 Rural Hospital in the Nation by the National Rural Health Association), Curious continues to help Alomere move into the future by expanding their reach and services to greater west-central Minnesota.
